Women of Wonder Day October 30th 2011

It's Women of Wonder Day tomorrow!
Formerly known as Wonder Woman Day, (I guess they changed it to make it inclusive for all super heroines) this charity event raises money for Domestic Violence programs. A very worthy cause.

Many artists (like Alex Ross and Adam Hughes) and celebrities donate pieces for the charity auction. I've been wanting to donate a piece for a while and finally gotten around doing it this year.

The reason why I didn't do it previously is because they don't accept all digital works, and frankly I didn't think my traditional skills were up to par (can't ctrl-z markers and ink).

This year though, I've practiced, and donated a marker illustration piece. I also did a digital color print piece (so it's a two-fer). More bang for the buck, right?

Storm: The Goddess

Forgot to put this up on the Sequential Salon blog. Storm in a skimpy outfit!

Zatanna

I know nothing of the character except she uses magic, talks backwards and wears a top hat.
Top hats are cool.

Supergirl

A change of pace from the usual angry chick art. Hmm, it looks like I accidentally Disney-fied her a bit. She even looks like she's singing to the bird!

Elektra Redux

new

old

So, I re-drew the illustration of Elektra I did three years ago. I wasn't happy with the original, especially the face.

So hopefully this is a much better drawing of Elektra. However, last week when I visited a friend's place, his 8 year old said, "I like the old one better".

Straight out of the babe's mouth. What do you think? Does the newer illustration lack the 'spark' or 'charm', or whatever you may call it, the original had?

Batwoman Portrait

Tried to "Speed" paint but it took me about 1 1/2 days to finish, I guess it's faster than the 1-2 week paintings I usually do. I tried not to use 'Undo' too much and tried to keep it on 2-3 layers.

Morrigan - Darkstalkers colored

Couldn't help myself. Colored in Photoshop.

Morrigan - Darkstalkers

Trying to practice with markers . Other than fixing the levels I'm trying not to do any Photoshop retouches on the art itself. Mmm, need to work on values more.

The Joker

Breaking in a new sketch book. Almost forgot that I can post my art on this blog. I'll be better about it I promise.

Darkstalkers Tribute Contest Piece

A few weeks ago Carlos and I entered the the UDON studios Darkstalkers Tribute Contest, where winners will be published in their new art book.

Here is the first entry where I painstakingly worked on for 2 weeks.

And the second entry where I completed in 6 hours while on a chocolate chip cookie sugar high.

Neither of them got chosen dammit! Well, now that the contest is over I can finally post them.

Dark Phoenix Rising

Look she's all mad and flamey. Man, I'm tired. Trying to figure out how to paint fire realistically was a b***h.

So I need help deciding which is better. 'Motion Blur' or 'No Motion Blur' version?

Hulk Smash Puny Rain!

So this is the first time I used the Cintiq to ink the lines. Previously I always scanned in pencil work and then colored it. A pain to clean up in Photoshop.

I was able to create nice thick & thin lines but next time I think I'll use thin neutral lines. I know people have already heard me say this but THE CINTIQ IS AWESOME!!!

Weekend Project: Invisible Woman

Sue sure looks good even after popping out two kids doesn't she? D'you think she's on Atkins or South Beach?

Watching TINMAN on Sci Fi Channel, so far...it's not that good.

The siren call of World of Warcraft beckons me. Must... resist!

Finished an illustration. Now, somebody give me a cookie.
