Women of Wonder Day October 30th 2011

It's Women of Wonder Day tomorrow!
Formerly known as Wonder Woman Day, (I guess they changed it to make it inclusive for all super heroines) this charity event raises money for Domestic Violence programs. A very worthy cause.

Many artists (like Alex Ross and Adam Hughes) and celebrities donate pieces for the charity auction. I've been wanting to donate a piece for a while and finally gotten around doing it this year.

The reason why I didn't do it previously is because they don't accept all digital works, and frankly I didn't think my traditional skills were up to par (can't ctrl-z markers and ink).

This year though, I've practiced, and donated a marker illustration piece. I also did a digital color print piece (so it's a two-fer). More bang for the buck, right?

Had some free time at work so I sketched and colored.

Zatanna

I know nothing of the character except she uses magic, talks backwards and wears a top hat.
Top hats are cool.

Supergirl

A change of pace from the usual angry chick art. Hmm, it looks like I accidentally Disney-fied her a bit. She even looks like she's singing to the bird!

Feeling Sketchy in Color - Pt. 2

Did a quick color drawing of my character, Zandalee, in her school uniform.

Feeling Sketchy Pt. 12 - Sequential Salon Sketch

Another Sequential Salon has gone by. Here’s a Zandalee sketch I did that day.

Elektra Redux

new

old

So, I re-drew the illustration of Elektra I did three years ago. I wasn't happy with the original, especially the face.

So hopefully this is a much better drawing of Elektra. However, last week when I visited a friend's place, his 8 year old said, "I like the old one better".

Straight out of the babe's mouth. What do you think? Does the newer illustration lack the 'spark' or 'charm', or whatever you may call it, the original had?

Feeling Sketchy in Color - Pt. 1

I’m not happy with the way I color my images. So, I’ve decided to use some of my sketches as practice.

Batwoman Portrait

Tried to "Speed" paint but it took me about 1 1/2 days to finish, I guess it's faster than the 1-2 week paintings I usually do. I tried not to use 'Undo' too much and tried to keep it on 2-3 layers.

Morrigan - Darkstalkers colored

Couldn't help myself. Colored in Photoshop.

Morrigan - Darkstalkers

Trying to practice with markers . Other than fixing the levels I'm trying not to do any Photoshop retouches on the art itself. Mmm, need to work on values more.

The Joker

Breaking in a new sketch book. Almost forgot that I can post my art on this blog. I'll be better about it I promise.

Demon Hunter Kain: Wendigo Concept Art

First off, Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all have a wonderful and prosperous New Year.

Next, behold the Wendigo. The Wendigo is a monster who comes from the coldest place. Its body is composed of mud and ice. A cannibal, it will devour anything in its path, including another Wendigo. Its mouth is lined with jagged teeth and it is magic, able to change form or possess people at will.

This image is the creature in its final form. I plan to have this creature appear in one of the Demon Hunter Kain story arcs.

Finally I'd like to give a special thanks to Lynne Yoshii for the use of her Cintiq (I have got to get me one of those!). Thanks Lynne!!!

Demon Hunter Kain: Nicole LaCroix Concept Art

Nicole LaCroix has been trained as a Demon Hunter since she was able to walk. She meets Kain and Zandalee later in the series and at first is unimpressed by the pair. Later, as she witnesses Kain in action, her impressions about him begin to change as do her feelings. In the case of Zandalee however her impression has only gotten worse. Nicole considers Zandalee to be a nuisance and a liability, meanwhile Zandalee considers Nicole to be the greatest thing since Wonder Woman.

I always envisioned Nicole as one of those girls that other girls and older women outwardly liked, yet inwardly loathed. She has the confidence, the attitude, the youth, the soft, firm and curvy body that both men and women would kill for, she's an A student, athletic, etc. She's pretty much perfect, or so it seems.

As with my other designs these are not etched in stone.

Feeling Sketchy Pt. 11 - Sketch Pad Sketches

So Lynne gave me a sketch pad that she wasn't using and I've been trying to draw in it everyday. I'm not making much progress on the "Do-A-Sketch-A-Day" front, but I'm sketching when I can. Here are a few that I did so far.
